Decoration + Design Sydney
Earlier this month, I travelled to Sydney to visit the Decoration + Design trade fair. While the fair was on the smaller side, the suppliers that did exhibit showed a great range of pieces to inspire. The usual big players showcased their large stands with both classics and new products, although despite their size, some of the smaller fries were the pick of the bunch for me. The Design Made Trade section of the show, which features up and coming designers and new products, had a some new and innovative pieces to display as well.
It was clear from the fair that texture is readily available and here to stay, with a feast of textural products that invited you to touch, feel and experience. The stand out colours that are set to trend were clearly blues and greys, with yellow also featuring as a hot colour of the moment. Here are some of the products that we found most inspiring at the show…
Adding an extra element of timber to a more traditional hand blown glass pendant, these are a fun and slightly quirky light fitting named Foul Play. These were found in the Design Made Trade area and created by Nicola Liston of Thinly Sliced Pickle
This was up there as one of my favourite stands at the show. There were so many interesting little pieces showcased on the stand from beautiful serving platters, to quaint cutlery and kitchen tools, even sweet little hanging pots for plants (make sure you check these out on my instagram page!) Thanks to New Direction Imports for making me fall in love with pretty much everything you had on display!
These rugs from La Grolla were the ultimate in touchy feely textural pleasure!! It was clear to see from this stand and others that texture is here to stay in a big way.
I can’t help but love Bisque Interiors stand at every fair I visit! While I’m sure there were a few items on the stand that I saw at the Melbourne fair (that gorgeous leather sofa!) there is always a multitude of smaller new pieces to ensure the stand has a new look every time. I loved the almost tribal feel the stand had at Sydneys event this time around.
I was completely taken by this range of platters, bowls and other crockery shown by African Trading Port. So many beautiful blues, aquas and soft greys combined with textural pattern totally stole my heart. If only I had more than a carry on allowance on my flight back to Melbourne…..
Another favourite of mine that frequents the trade fairs is Armadillo and Co. I loved the way they displayed their new range of rugs, hanging from the high ceiling. What a fantastic injection of colour as you entered the show! As always, these are a great product with loads of colourways at an affordable price.
MRD Home showed that yellows, blues and greys are here to stay in a big way. Awesome selection of decorative ceramic and glassware as well as some beautiful key furniture pieces with subdued timber and soft fabrics.
